Industrial diamond, #400
The hardest material on earth, bonded to steel. Sharpens any blade and lasts decades of home use — no refills, ever.
🏆 2025 Top Rated Sharpener By Home Chefs
Why home cooks keep it on the counter
An N52 magnet strong enough to hold the knife by itself (even inverted), and steel bearings that let the roller glide instead of drag. Plus real industrial diamond — the same abrasive professional services use.
Sharpens great — chef's, santoku, nakiri, paring, utility, boning and cleavers, in any steel, including hard Japanese blades (set the base to 15°).
Works with care — very narrow blades under ½ inch sit low on the magnet: hold the blade a touch higher and guide it with a light hand. They still sharpen, just with a little more attention.
Not for — serrated / bread knives and scissors (straight edges only). And it keeps a good edge sharp — it isn't a repair grinder for a deeply chipped or bent blade.
Flip the magnetic base to 15° for thin Japanese-style knives (Global, Shun, Miyabi) or 20° for thicker Western knives (Wüsthof, Henckels, most starter sets). Not sure? 20° is the safe default for most kitchen sets. Snap the knife onto the base — it clicks and holds itself — then roll the sharpener along the edge ten times per side. Finish with five passes on the ceramic disc. About 60 seconds per knife, once a month.
The walnut Roller with its diamond #400 + ceramic #1000 discs, the 15°/20° flip magnetic base, a quick-start card, and a gift-ready box. Everything you need — nothing to add.

Angles: 15° Japanese / 20° Western — magnetic flip base

The magnet holds it for you.
No whetstones, no skill.
Love it or your money back.

The Honewood Roller
No motors, no refills, no skill required — just the hardware that matters, done properly.
Snap the knife on and it holds itself at exactly 15° or 20°. The magnet keeps the angle — not your hands.
The same abrasive professional services use. Ten passes rebuild a working edge without eating the blade.
Five polishing passes leave a mirror bevel that glides through a tomato skin.
Not the sharpest your knives have ever been? Full refund, prepaid return label — forever.

Every sharpening method fails for the same reason: human hands can't hold a perfect angle. Whetstones take years to master. Pull-through grinders tear the edge. Electric sharpeners eat your blade — and make you drag the edge toward your hand.
Honewood flips it: the knife snaps onto the magnetic base and never moves. Your hands stay on the roller, away from the edge. The angle is locked at exactly 15° or 20° — you physically can't do it wrong.
We tore down every knockoff to find where they skimp. Then we didn't.

The hardest material on earth, bonded to steel. Sharpens any blade and lasts decades of home use — no refills, ever.

Strong enough to hold your chef's knife upside down. The knife stays put; your hands stay away from the edge. Clones use magnets half this strength.

A solid hardwood body on free-spinning steel bearings — it glides, it doesn't drag. Handsome enough to live on the counter, where you'll actually use it.
Before: a tired edge that slides off a tomato skin and crushes it.
After one 60-second pass: a mirror-polished bevel that passes the paper test and glides through under the knife's own weight. Same knife — you just gave it its edge back.
We tore down the knockoffs to find where they cut corners. Here's what actually separates them.

The skeptic in me lost
I'll be honest, I figured this would end up forgotten in a drawer. Ran my chef knife through it, ten passes a side like the card says, and it went clean through a ripe tomato without smashing it. The skeptic in me lost this one.

Great once you learn it
Nice quality right out of the box, heavier than I expected in a good way. The little instruction card is pretty bare though, I ended up looking up a video to be sure I was doing it right. Works great once you know the motion.

Bought this for my dad who has a whole block of knives he hasn't touched in probably a decade. Figured I would do them for him over the holidays as a surprise. Went through the entire set in about fifteen minutes, ten passes a side on each, and lined them all up on the counter when I was done. He picked one up, tried it on a tomato, and just stared at me. He has texted me twice since asking where I got it.

Always been scared of wrecking my good knives on a stone. This takes the guesswork out completely.

Got this for my husband who is very particular about his knives. He opened the box and was impressed before he even used it, said it feels well made. Then he sharpened his whole collection and has not stopped talking about it since.

Looks great on the counter
The walnut roller feels great in the hand, nice weight to it, and the diamond disc looks like it will last for years. Sits on the counter and looks like a real piece, not some plastic gadget.

Foolproof
Never could get the hang of a whetstone, mine always came out worse than they started. This is honestly foolproof, you just roll it back and forth and the base holds the angle for you.

between work and two kids I don't have time to sit there with a stone and a bowl of water. This does a knife in about a minute and they come out sharp. Only thing is I wish the roller had a bit more grip, my hand slipped once. Still glad I bought it.

Perfect for my Japanese knives
The 15 degree side is perfect for my Japanese knives. I was nervous about getting the angle wrong but the magnet keeps everything steady so every pass is the same. Edge looks mirror clean now.
Sliced right through paper
Sliced clean through a sheet of paper on the first try. Never had a knife in my kitchen do that before!
Small learning curve
Took me two tries to get the feel for keeping steady pressure, my first knife was not much better than when I started. Second one I slowed down and it came out razor sharp. The instructions could be a little clearer but once it clicks it is easy.
A dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one. Mine slipped off an onion last month and I nearly caught my thumb. Got everything sharp again in one sitting and I feel a lot safer cooking now.
Ok I was wrong
Was 100 percent sure this was a gimmick. Then it sliced a tomato paper thin. Fine, I was wrong.
Sixty seconds
sixty seconds and done. That is about all the time I have most nights and it turns out that is plenty.
Doing my folks kitchen next. Did all my knives in an afternoon and lined them up to check, every single one shaving sharp. My mom still uses knives older than me so it will be perfect for her.
Feels premium
Feels premium and looks great sitting out. The diamond disc clearly means business.
Grabbed the first knife I sharpened and held up a piece of printer paper. It glided straight through with no tearing. My wife did not believe me so I made her try it too!
Finally something simple
I am 62 and never once learned how to properly sharpen a knife, my husband always did it. Now that it is just me I needed something simple, and this is genuinely foolproof.
I have a couple of nicer Japanese blades that I babied for years because I did not trust myself with a stone. Used the 15 degree guide on them and the magnet held the angle rock steady the whole way, so every pass was identical. No guessing and no uneven edge. Then I flipped to the 20 degree side for my German chef knife and it handled that just as well. Two angles covers basically everything I own.
Works but wish for more grip
Works really well and it is fast. My only wish is that the roller was a little easier to grip when your hands are wet. Small thing though.
Almost returned it
I'll admit I bought this half expecting to send it back. I have wasted money on kitchen gadgets before and figured a rolling thing with a magnet could not do what a real sharpener does. Did ten passes a side on my main chef knife and then grabbed a soft tomato that I could barely cut the night before. It fell into slices like it was nothing, no squishing at all. My wife tried it on hers and now we are working through the whole kitchen. For 59 bucks it already paid for itself on the one knife I almost tossed.
Fast and simple
Fast, simple, and it holds the angle for you. Perfect for someone who just wants sharp knives without a whole ritual.
Tried whetstones twice and gave up both times, too fiddly and I never trusted the angle. The diamond disc and the guided base take all of that away. Rolled it a few times and my knife was scary sharp.
Bought a second for my sister
Ordered one for myself and liked it so much I immediately bought a second for my sister's birthday. I went through every knife in my block, even the little paring knives, and fanned them all out afterward just to admire the work. It genuinely feels like a real tool with some heft to it, not one of those cheap plastic gadgets that breaks in a month. My sister cooks a lot so I know she will get even more use out of hers than I do.
Little learning curve
First knife I did could cut paper but not perfectly. Second and third came out much better once I got the pressure even. There is a little learning curve but nothing crazy, and it is way easier than a stone.
The rolling motion is oddly satisfying and the 15 degree side kept my santoku right where I wanted it. Only wish the angle markings were a bit bigger, they are hard to read in low light. Still the sharpest it has been in ages.
It just works
didn't think it would work. It works. Knives are sharper than the day I bought them.
I was always scared of ruining my expensive knives so I just let them get dull. Opening this and seeing how it guides everything for you took that fear away. My first knife came out great.
Held a sheet of paper up and my chef knife glided right through it. Then I sliced a tomato so thin you could almost see through it just to show off. Count me a believer!
Faster than I expected
So much faster than I expected. Once I had the motion down I did three knives in about five minutes. No mess and no soaking a stone for twenty minutes first.
Sharpest my knives have ever been.
My knives are nothing fancy, just a basic set I have had for years, and even those came out shaving sharp. You really do not need expensive knives for this to make a difference.
60 seconds and done. wild.
Bought this for my dad for his birthday and now I need one for myself. He called me the next day just to tell me how sharp his knives got. Worth every penny.
Good product. Took me two tries to really get the angle consistent but once it clicked it was easy. Knives are noticeably sharper. Would recommend just read the little card first.
Should have bought it years ago
Between work and three kids I do not have the time or patience to sit there with a whetstone and a YouTube video. This I can do while dinner is on the stove. Ten passes each side and my knife actually cuts a tomato instead of smashing it. Honestly should have bought it years ago.
Does exactly what it says. sharp knives, no fuss.
I couldn't slice a tomato without squishing it into mush. Now it glides right through. Such a simple little thing but it works.
A dull knife is honestly dangerous, I almost took a chunk out of my thumb last month because I was forcing it. Got this and my knives grip and cut like they should. Feels a lot safer in the kitchen now.
Works great and the magnet holds the blade really steady. My only small gripe is the roller could use a better grip surface, gets a touch slippery. Other than that no complaints, my knives are sharp again.
Cuts like new. thats it, thats the review.
Looks good on the counter too
Feels premium, good weight to it, and honestly it looks great sitting on the counter. Not something I feel like I need to hide in a drawer. And it actually works which is the main thing.
I was 100 percent sure this was going to be a waste of 59 bucks. I've bought sharpeners before that scratched up my blades and did nothing. This one is different. The magnetic base locks the knife in and the diamond roller does the work. Ran my whole set through in like ten minutes. Consider me converted.
Held up a sheet of paper and it glided straight through. sold.
I have a couple expensive knives and I was always scared of wrecking them trying to sharpen them myself. The guided angle took that fear away completely. No guessing, just roll. Really happy with it.
It works well once you figure it out. The instructions could have been a little clearer honestly, I had to watch a video. But after that it was simple and my knives are sharp. Four stars just for the setup confusion.
Best 59 dollars I've spent on the kitchen.
He loves it
Got this for my husband who is very particular about his knives and he loves it. He's the type to research everything for weeks and he was impressed right out of the box. Bonus that it comes with a warranty.
Wish I found this sooner
I cook every night and my knives take a beating. I used to send them out to get sharpened which cost me more than this thing costs and took a week each time. Now I just do it myself in about a minute before I start prepping. The diamond disc really does the job. Wish I found this sooner.
Simple, fast, and my knives are sharp again.

The opposite. The locked angle means you can't roll the wrong bevel, and diamond removes far less steel than electric sharpeners or grinding wheels. Your knives last longer, not shorter.
Yes. The magnet holds the blade at a fixed angle and the disc only touches the edge bevel — far gentler than a pull-through or electric grinder. Set the base to 15° for Japanese steel. (Very acute factory edges under 15° will be brought to a durable 15°, not left at the original micro-bevel.)
No. A quick monthly pass only refreshes the existing edge — it doesn't grind steel away the way electric sharpeners do. The locked angle means every pass lands in the same place, so you're maintaining the edge, not eating the blade.
None — that's the entire point. The base sets the angle for you. If you can roll a rolling pin, you'll get your best-ever edge on the first try.
Yes. Rest the magnetic base on the edge of a cutting board so the blade hangs just over the side, or let the spine sit slightly proud of the base. Tall chef's and cleaver blades sharpen fine this way.
Serrated blades and scissors. Very narrow blades (under 0.5") sit lower on the magnet — they still sharpen, with a little more care.
About once a month for daily-use knives — roughly 60 seconds per knife. Quick touch-ups take ten seconds.
250–350 full sharpenings. At a typical once-a-month home routine that's well over a decade of use — and the whole tool is covered by the lifetime guarantee.
Yes — the roller has no handedness. Snap the knife on, roll it back and forth, done. It works exactly the same in either hand.
Wipe the walnut body with a dry or barely-damp cloth and let it air dry. Don't put it in the dishwasher — solid walnut and the diamond bond don't like the heat or the soak. A drop of food-safe mineral oil on the wood a couple of times a year keeps it looking new for decades. Tip: sharpen over a paper towel and the fine metal filings wipe straight up.
